  The trek to the Kashmir Great Lakes Trek will provide to the trekkers a perfect flavor of all hues of terrain- innumerable meadows, snow-clad glaciers, and pinnacles, passes, rocky barren lands, struggling streams. The trail to the Great Lakes is worth trekking. It does justice to all the expectations of a trekker. No individual will ever undergo but this trek will make you undergo. It is a path to heaven and its virgin serenity. Kashmir has always been admired due to its mesmerizing beauty and lush greenery. The place has served as a pacifier to many people. It takes you into another realm of nature and physical artistry. In this beautiful valley lies an adventure, surely that’s not to be missed by any adventurist ”The Great Lakes Trek”. The Great lakes trek in Kashmir is a hand in glove treat for any adventurist out there. The trek takes place in a mesmerizing area called Sonamarg- also known as the glacier Ground. The Great Lakes trek is not known by all the people out there, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth it. This trek is designed for the beginners and the enthusiastic nature lovers. The trailhead of this Trek is Sonamarg, the living landscape of the shepherds on the east and Naranag on the west. This trek revolves around lakes that are a treat to one’s eyes. The most notable sights are- Vishansar Lake, KrishansarLake, Gadsar Lake, Gangabal Lake, and Nundkol Lake. A trekker needs to move from Sonamarg to Harmukh, all through the high-altitude lakes with enthralling scenes of elevated mountains, campsites, and fishing on the way. The view of twin lakes of Gangabal and Nundkol are the most eye-capturing one during the course of the trek.

Day 5 Jul-27 Acclimatization + Rest Day.
Day 6 Jul-28 Vishansar lake to Gadsar via Gadsar Pass (Trek)
Day 7 Jul-29 Gadsar to Satsar (Trek)
Day 8 Jul-30 Satsar to Gangabal twin lakes via Zaj Pass (Trek)
Day 9 Jul-31 Gangabal to Naranag Drive to Srinagar, Check in Hotel

Detailed Itinerary
Day Activity
Day1 Arrival at Srinagar any time after 11 am, check-in Hotel
Free time to enjoy Srinagar  ( Accommodation included )
Day 2 10 AM  will start to drive  to Sonamarg (9186 ft) ( Cost included)
90 KM drive from Srinagar (approx. 3 hours
Stay near Sindh river  (Shitkadi Village)
Day 3 Sonamarg (7,800ft) to Nichnai (13,350 ft) via Shekdur
 11 KM trek, approx 8 hours
After breakfast -trek to Nichnai via Shekdur.
The trail takes you through meadows, dense forests with Maple, Pine, and Bhoj trees.
After approx half an hour, we get an army check post &  submit our ID proofs.
There you can enjoy an awesome view of the Sonmarg Valley or the Thajiwas Glacier.
The trek from Shitkadi to Shekdur goes through thick forests of pine trees and will take approx 2.5 hours
At Shekdar, you can indulge in instant noodles and omelets if you wish to
We follow the Nichnai Stream as we trek from Shekdur to Nichnai.
We have lunch at the Nichnai stream, after Shekdur.
Overnight stay in camp.
Day 4 Nichinni (13,350 ft) to Vishansar lake (12,170ft)
12 kms trek, approx. 7 hours
Trek from Nichnai to Nichnai Pass is of approx. 1.5 hours ascent
From Nichnai pass to Vishansar there is a descent.
At Vishansar campsite, lunch will be offered.
We can visit the Vishansar Lake which is just 15 minutes walk from the campsite.
The first lake of the trek and one of the most beautiful ones
If the trek is in July, the lake will be frozen. .
Otherwise, we can do fishing at the lake with permission from the Srinagar Fishing Department
Vishansar is visited by hoards of sheep and their shepherds are known for interesting stories
The campsite is a unique place with an open ground and you can play volleyball, cricket etc.
Overnight stay at the camp
Day 5 Acclimatization and rest Day.
You may visit Kishansar lake, which is at approx. 1 and half km from our camp site.
If the weather is not good we will use acclimatization day at vishansar
Or else move towards the next camp site, rest day can be used at Gangbal camp site.
Night stay at the campsite
Day 6 Vishansar (12,170ft) to Gadsar (11,800ft) via Kishansar lake and Gadsar Pass (13,750ft)
 14 km trek, approx 10 hours
We start the trek earlier than usual.
The trail passes from Vishansar to Gadsar, via Gadsar pass the highest point of the trek.
From Vishansar, the trail takes a steep ascent till Gadsar Pass.
We can see the Kishansar Lake on the way.
From the Gadsar pass till the camp site, we descend gradually.
We can spot the Gadsar lake route. You might also spot the Glacier of Gadsar Lake.
After the Gadsar lake, we will reach the campsite in 2 hours.
Just before our campsite, we will have another army checkpoint and we have to share our ID proofs with them.
Pack lunch will be provided.
 Night stay in the tents.
Day 7 Gadsar (11,800ft) to Satsar (12,050ft),
Mid July to mid August, the trail is laden in vibrant flowers.
We need to share our IDs at another army check post route. .
Moving on, we see two small lakes which are often mistaken as Satsar Lakes.
We will visit the Satsar twin lakes, in the afternoon, which are approx. 1.5 h
Stasar twin lakes are also known as mengen top.
Those twin lakes are between the middle of the mountain.
Overnight stay in camp.
Day 8 Satsar (12,050ft) to Gangabal twin lakes (11,500ft),
11 KM trek, approx. 6 hours
We walk on rocky paths for approx. an hour and ascend till Jazz Pass.
At the pass, you can enjoy views of the 4 lakes, Mt. Harmukh and its glacier.
From the pass we descend till the Gangbal lake and camp at Nandkol lake.
We visit the Gangbal Lake, which is one of the largest lakes in the trek.
Post dinner, a team of Kashmiri staff will perform their traditional songs and dance.
Overnight stay in camp.
Day 9 Gangabal (11,500ft) to Naranag(7,450ft),
15 KM trek, approx. 7 hours
The trail is a descent till the last point of the trek – Naranag, so take care of your knees and ankles.
The trail will pass through pine tree forests.
Drive back to Srinagar-70 km drive- will reach by 6:30 pm.

  12. Note: Any additional costs due to weather / unforeseen situations, will have to be borne by the traveler. Team Leader/Guides word is the final one, all team members need to follow this. . Our team reserves the right to change the plan in case there is accidents involved for the group or whenever the trek leader deems it necessary.

In case of participant infected with Covid within the last 15 days of the trip – We will add 100% of the amount to LetsGoForACamp Wallet (Virtual Money) which can be used in any future trip. The participant is to share the RTPCR Certificate showing this. This will also be applicable only if the participant makes all the installments to date.

In case of a trip cancellation from letsgoforacamp due to a govt restriction, the complete amount paid to date will be added to the LetsGoForACamp Wallet. Additional options for refund, if possible, will be informed to the participants. All refund options are available only if the participant has made all the installments will date.



LetsGoForACamp highly recommends that the personal backpack be carried by the participant themselves. However, in case you are absolutely not able to carry the same and would like to offload then you have to inform us during the booking process and pre-book the offloading. Each bag should not be more than 10 Kg in weight. This weight limit is a reference for maximum weight but bags shall be counted in number to calculate the charges. The bag should be of rucksack style only. No Duffle bags/Suitcases would be accepted for offloading.

  • The local market is available for any last-minute shopping in Sonamarg, but try to get all necessary things before only.
  • ATM point –  Sonamarg, but we recommend keeping the required money with you.
  • Mobile Signal –Only BSNL/AIRTEL postpaid During trekking time no connectivity
  • Nearest Rail Head – Jammu
  • Nearest Airport –Srinagar

  • Snow – No snow during that period
  • There will be no shops around so ensure you have all that you need already.
  • At the top of Nichnai Pass, you can get BSNL &  Airtel network, Its  the last point under the mobile coverage area
  • Don’t forget your ID proof in original and 2 photocopies.



By Air:-

Most major air carriers like Air India and Indigo operate daily flights to Srinagar. Reaching Srinagar by flight from New Delhi is the most convenient way.

By Train:-

Jammu is the nearest railway station to Srinagar, which is at a distance of 290 km. Jammu railway station is well connected to all major cities in India by rail. Direct train services are available from Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and Trivandrum.

By Bus:-

Srinagar is linked by the National Highway 1A to the rest of the country. J & K state road transport operates comfortable buses from Jammu. The Journey takes about 10 hours to reach Srinagar. ( Traffic Jams  are always here in this route )
