Overview

The Annapurna Base Camp trek is one of Nepal’s most iconic and rewarding trekking experiences, combining lush lowland trails, alpine forests, cultural villages, and towering Himalayan peaks into a single, unforgettable journey. This 10-day adventure takes you deep into the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary, a natural amphitheater surrounded by some of the world’s highest and most dramatic mountains—including Annapurna I (8,091 m), Machapuchare (6,993 m), and Hiunchuli (6,441 m).

Beginning from the beautiful lakeside city of Pokhara, the trek passes through charming Gurung and Magar villages, rhododendron forests, and terraced hillsides. The route via Poon Hill offers a stunning sunrise panorama before entering the Modi Khola valley and ascending toward Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 meters. Along the way, trekkers enjoy warm hospitality in teahouses, walk beside rushing rivers and waterfalls, and witness the landscape shift from subtropical greenery to snow-covered alpine wilderness. This moderately challenging trek is perfect for those seeking both cultural immersion and breathtaking mountain scenery.

Detailed Itinerary
Day Date Itinerary Stay
1 April 19 , 2026 Arrival in Pokhara (822 m) Pokhara
You’ll arrive in Pokhara, a peaceful lakeside city and the starting point of your trek. Spend the day resting or exploring attractions like Phewa Lake, the Peace Pagoda, or the vibrant Lakeside Market if time permits. No trekking on this day, but it sets the tone with distant views of Machapuchare and the Annapurna range on clear days.
2 April 20 , 2026 Pokhara to Ulleri (1,960 m) by drive, then trek to Ghorepani (2,860 m) Ghorepani
After breakfast, a 3–4 hour drive takes you from Pokhara through scenic countryside and villages like Nayapul, Birethanti, and Hile before reaching Ulleri. From Ulleri, you begin your trek, ascending steep stone steps through forests and passing small settlements like Tikhedhunga and Banthanti (not to be confused with the Banthanti Hill near Tadapani). As you gain altitude, you walk through Nangethanti before finally reaching Ghorepani, a beautiful ridge-top Magar village surrounded by rhododendron forests and mountain vistas.
3 April 21 , 2026 Ghorepani to Poon Hill (3,210 m), then to Banthanti Hill (2,260 m) Banthanti Hill
Start early for the pre-dawn hike up to Poon Hill, a grassy viewpoint above Ghorepani, where you’ll witness a breathtaking sunrise over peaks including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I, Annapurna South, and Machapuchare. After returning to Ghorepani for breakfast, the trail climbs over Deurali Pass (3,180 m), then descends through dense rhododendron forests. You pass through Deurali village (distinct from the Deurali near ABC), then descend past small rest spots like Thulo Odar and small clearings before arriving at Banthanti Hill near Tadapani—a tranquil area surrounded by trees.
4 April 22 , 2026 Banthanti Hill to Chhomrong (2,170 m) Chhomrong
This day involves a mix of forested ascents and descents. You’ll first pass through Tadapani, a popular ridge village with incredible views of Annapurna South and Machapuchare. Then the trail descends through rhododendron forests toward Chuile, and drops further to cross the Kimrong Khola near the village of Gurjung. Afterward, a gradual climb through terraces and scattered homes leads to Chhomrong, a large Gurung village perched on a slope directly facing the Annapurna massif.
5 April 23 , 2026 Chhomrong to Lower Dovan (2,600 m) Lower Dovan
From Chhomrong, descend steeply down stone steps to Chhomrong Khola, then climb through terraced farmland to the small hamlet of Bhanuwa and continue to Upper Sinuwa. The trail then enters dense forests where you pass through Bamboo village, a narrow settlement surrounded by thick vegetation. Shortly after Bamboo, you’ll reach Lower Dovan, a peaceful stop along the riverside trail.
6 April 24 , 2026 Lower Dovan to Deurali (3,230 m) Deurali
The trail climbs steadily through cool, damp forests. You pass through the settlements of Upper Dovan and then the Himalayan Hotel, both surrounded by lush alpine woods. Continuing upward, you reach Hinku Cave—a famous overhang used as a shelter in the past—before emerging into more open terrain. Finally, you arrive at Deurali, which sits beneath cliffs and avalanche-prone slopes, with stunning views of the river valley and nearby peaks.
7 April 25 , 2026 Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC – 4,130 m) Annapurna Base Camp
Today’s route follows the narrowing Modi Khola valley. You first reach Machapuchare Base Camp (MBC – 3,700 m), a small cluster of lodges beneath the sacred peak of Machapuchare. From here, the landscape opens dramatically as you enter the Annapurna Sanctuary. Gradually climbing past moraine fields and alpine meadows, you reach Annapurna Base Camp, surrounded on all sides by towering peaks including Annapurna I, Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli.
8 April 26 , 2026 Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo (2,335 m) Bamboo
Retrace your steps downhill from ABC, passing back through Machapuchare Base Camp and Deurali. Continue past Hinku Cave, Himalayan Hotel, and Dovan, then re-enter the forest as you descend through Upper Dovan and reach Bamboo. Though you’re descending, the trail still includes some short uphill sections.
9 April 27 , 2026 Bamboo to Jhinu Danda, drive to Pokhara Pokhara
From Bamboo, climb back to Upper Sinuwa and then descend to cross Chhomrong Khola again. A final climb takes you to Chhomrong, and from there you descend a long set of stone stairs to reach Jhinu Danda. This small village is known for its riverside hot springs, located a short 20-minute walk downhill from the lodge area. After a relaxing soak (optional), you board a vehicle and drive back to Pokhara through villages like Samrung and Siwai, passing terraced fields and rural scenery.
